MIRI: It is quite frustrating to see many hawkers and traders at the major markets here not wearing face masks amidst the current Covid-19 situation.

In voicing this out, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting reminded them to always wear face masks  during operating hours to protect  themselves and others against the coronavirus.

“The percentage of hawkers wearing face masks is still low and this really worries me, in that they are exposed to the risk of infection, and so are the others at the markets.

“Similarly, the shoppers must also wear face masks. On top of that, having good personal hygiene is crucial, such as frequent handwashing with soap and water.

“You never know where the virus is,” said Ting when met after his walkabout at Lutong Market and other markets here yesterday, where he also noticed people ignoring some of the Movement Control Order (MCO) regulations.

“There’s noticeably a larger crowd at the market today (Saturday), and there are those who come out with their family members.

“Understandably, staying at home could be painstaking for many people, but for the safety of all, it is advisable to abide by the rules,” he stressed.
