Search still on for croc attack victim

KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department has extended their search for a crocodile victim Yanya Mahrat to a 2km radius from where he was attacked at Sungai Kampung Melayu, Tanjung Pijat in Sri Aman on April 22.

The search yesterday started at 5.30am and the team was divided into five groups which included personnel from the police, civil defence force and 13 villagers.

At press time yesterday, Yanya’s body has yet to be found.

The victim went fishing with his younger brother and an uncle on April 22, and he was said to be attacked by a crocodile while setting a fishing net in the river.

A police report was lodged at 3.50pm by the uncle who witnessed the incident.

He said Yanya called for help before disappearing almost instantaneously underwater.

Yanya is married with two children.
