BINTULU: Sixteen local tailors came together to produce their first batch of personal protective equipment (PPE) meant to be donated to the frontliners at Bintulu Hospital.

Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi, who initiated this, managed to gather these volunteers in just a short time.

When met after handing over the PPE to Bintulu Hospital director Dr Davis Johnraj yesterday, Rodziah said the volunteers finished making 142 coveralls, 562 pieces of head covers and 435 pieces of shoe covers in less than a week.

She said they made all the items at their own places.

“It was an ad hoc effort by the team. They received five rolls of fabric from Kuala Lumpur for free – they just need to pay for the postage.

“We recruited these volunteer tailors through Facebook, and they were very willing to contribute to this cause.

“Without them, this would not be possible. All of them said this was one way for them to show their appreciation to the medical and health frontliners,” said Rodziah.

She also said for the second batch, arrangements were being made to obtain more materials.

“Once the items are on hand, all 16 tailors would be called up again,” she added.
