Nurul together with her friends are scheduled to fly back to Sarawak on May 1.

MIRI: A father was full of joy after receiving the news that his daughter who is studying at the International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM) in Kuantan is scheduled to return to Sarawak on May 1.

Bolhan Basah, a civil servant, said the good news was the best gift for him for Labour Day.

“Like the other Sarawakian students, my daughter has been stranded during the Movement Control Order (MCO) duration and unable to fly back to Sarawak.

“I am indeed very happy that the federal government has allowed students from Sarawak in both government and private institutions of higher learning (IPT) to return to their hometown,” he stated when contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday.

He thanked Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for relaxing the MCO to allow the IPT students to return home.

He was also grateful that the government would bear the transportation cost for all the returning IPT students.

He said his daughter was supposed fly back to Sarawak on March 28 for semester break but the plan was put off due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“As a father, I’m of course very excited that my daughter is finally able to go back to the family.

“Although she has to undergo mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival, to me it is alright as long as she is staying close to the family.”

Bolhan’s daughter Nurul Syafiqah is taking a course in Bachelor in Nursing at UIAM.
