MIRI: The Welfare Department and constituency service centres here have to date distributed 16,078 food aid packages to the B40 group under the Sarawakku Sayang Assistance Package.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said from that figure, 8,375 food aid packages were distributed in Senadin constituency, followed by 4,678 packages in Piasau, and 3,025 packages in Pujut.

He clarified that the food aid under Sarawakku Sayang is for low-income families under the B40 group.

“I’ve been informed that there are some misunderstanding among the general public as they thought that the food assistance under Sarawakku Sayang is given to all. That is why there are some people who are not in the B40 group list and also not from low-income families who have come forward and wanted to claim the food aid,” he said after chairing a discussion between the committee and the Welfare Department yesterday.

“We must give priority to the B40 group as they highly need such food assistance during this Movement Control Order (MCO).”

He said those who have already received the food aid should not submit additional applications by using other names.

Lee said this would only slow down the effort of processing the applications of those who deserved the assistance and had yet to receive any food aid during the MCO.
