PUTRAJAYA: Police have received more than 500,000 applications from people wanting to return to the cities via the Gerak Malaysia application, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the police would prepare a movement schedule for their journey that would take place from
May 7 to 10.

Ismail Sabri highlights a point during the live update.

“We will allow those stranded in the ‘kampungs’ (villages) to return to the cities and so on. The police will issue a media statement to provide further details on the matter.

“Civil servants need not rush home just because offices are operating once again this Monday (tomorrow) as the Chief Secretary to the Government has agreed that they (civil servants) need not necessarily resume duties on Monday itself,” he said at the daily briefing on the Movement Control Order (MCO) here yesterday.

Ismail Sabri said employers were also urged not to punish workers who had yet to obtain clearance from the police to travel back to their respective work locations.

“I ask for cooperation from private sector employers to give their workers some time to return to work based on the travel schedule prepared by the police.

“So please don’t be too hasty to act against them (workers) if they do not resume duties on Monday as their travel takes place from May 7. I hope no workers get punished as the (travel) schedule is prepared by the police.”

Ismail Sabri said the government would also ask the Human Resources Ministry to determine if there were legal avenues to act against employers who punished their workers for this reason. — Bernama
