SARIKEI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has appointed transporters to deliver essential items to designated points of sales (POS) in the rural areas across this division.

According to KPDNHEP Sarikei enforcement chief Mohamad Zawawi, this arrangement is to ensure sufficient supply of essential items in the rural areas during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period.

In addition, he says the ministry’s branch here has also appointed several district retail shops (DDRs) to serve as benchmarks for sufficiency level of essential supplies in Sarikei, especially the remote pockets in Pakan and Julau.

“Throughout the MCO period, the KPDNHEP enforcement officers are being deployed to carry out daily inspections (on the trading of essential items) to ensure optimal compliance among local traders with the various requirements under the relevant Act,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohamad also said there had been no panic-buying reported here so far.

Local consumers who may have witnessed any violation or abuse of good trading practices can report it to KPDNHEP Sarikei by calling its operations room on 084-657 751.

The line is open daily, from 8am to 5.30pm.
