KUCHING: The Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development welcomes the federal government’s announcement to extend the appeal period for Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) to May 31.

“I support extending the appeal for BPN to May 31 so that the target groups that were meant to benefit (from the incentives) can get the benefit,” said Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

Fatimah pointed out it is very often that the disadvantaged and needy groups need guidance and assistance to have access to the system and thus, it is reasonable to give them more time to do so.

On a related matter, she supports the decision by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to extend the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) to June 9, saying it is the “right thing” to do to protect the people.

“While easing up and opening room for economic activities (during CMCO), most importantly it enables the hardest hit group to make a living,” she said in a reply.

She pointed out the Covid-19 outbreak had resulted in a new norm of living, whereby the people observe social distancing, practise personal hygiene and keep away from big crowd events in order to win the war against the contagious disease.
