MIRI: This year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration will be different especially for children who have been waiting for the moment to celebrate it with their relatives.
For 12-year-old Qaisara Basyiera Fazhariezal, not having open house during Aidilfitri is sad but she accepts the rules set by the government as at least she can celebrate it with her family.
“Since we have to stop the Covid-19 infection chain, I agree with the rule and will stay home and not gather in public places. No matter what it is, it’s for our own good and I’m grateful to be able to celebrate Aidilfitri with my family,” she told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Maisara Zuhayra Mohamad Mohidi is also saddened by the rule that does not allow Aidilfitri to be celebrated like in previous years.
“I am sad that we are not able to see our relatives. Though the mood to celebrate Aidilfitri is still there, it won’t be like last year where we all could play fireworks and do visiting.
“However, I know why the rules are made and I hope everyone obeys the government’s orders,” said the 12-year-old.
Another 12-year-old, Nurul Syazwani Roslan, who had just moved here this year said Aidilfitri will definitely be sad for her.
“I’m quite sad because I can’t go back to my hometown in Betong. It’s been three months since we last went back. All these while, we couldn’t even go to the town, let alone go visiting to our friend’s house this Aidilfitri or hold open house. Nonetheless, I’m happy to celebrate it with my family and this year we will make Raya cookies for our own family only,” she said.

Dayangku Nur Syaheeda Awang Zaini, who lives in Teluk Gadong, Klang and is supposed to come back to Bintulu to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, said her children kept on wanting to go back to Bintulu.
“My children are really sad and I had to tell them it is not possible to go back at the time being because of the virus. As much as I want to go back too, health matters most and travelling is not an option right now.
“However, I will still be baking biscuits, making ‘rendang’ and what not for my family. We as a family will celebrate on our own, and I don’t think I will be accepting any guest for this Aidilfitri as my neighbours are also aware that no visiting is allowed during Aidilfitri,” said the mother of six.
