KUCHING: Marine Police Region Five (PPMW5) personnel arrested two male suspects on Thursday (May 14) after they were found to be in unlawful possession of diesel at Jalan Setia Raja, Tabuan Jaya around 4pm.

PPMW5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said in a statement yesterday the diesel was found in two petrol storage containers with a total capacity of 1,428 litres.

“The suspects aged 34 and 50 years failed to produce relevant documents for the diesel when they were stopped by our personnel from the intelligence unit,” said Shamsol.

Both were arrested under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

The lorry that the suspects were travelling in was also seized, bringing the total seizure value to around RM104,000.

“The suspects were later handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) for further action,” he added.

In a separate raid on Wednesday at Bekenu in Miri, PPMW5 personnel arrested a 62-year-old suspect for a similar offence.

“During that raid, our personnel found eight drums filled with diesel. The suspect also failed to produce relevant documents when he was checked,” said Shamsol.

Together with the lorry, the total seizure value was estimated at RM42,600.

The case was also referred to KPDNHEP for further action.
