MIRI: A task force to focus on contact tracing among students from domestic institutions of higher learning has been set up by the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDMC) yesterday.
According to a press statement by MDMC, a brainstorming session and coordination meeting took place on May 25 to focus on those who have returned from within the state to Miri Division in the recent weeks such as those from Kuching, Samarahan and Bintulu. The meeting was chaired by Minister of Transport, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is the minister in charge of MDMC.
“All the returning students have been identified based on data collected upon their arrival. Those students are being called by the task force personnel from OPS (operation) Room for appointment to take samples. SMS Info-blast will be sent to their handphones as well,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, all students who received the phone calls and SMS Info-blast are advised to follow the instruction and appointment given by the OPS Room personnel.
For those students from rural areas and outside Miri District, arrangement had been made for them to enter designated hotels. Swabs will be taken at the hotel and they will be discharged once result is negative.
For further enquiries, those affected can call the OPS Room at 085-322 229 between 8am and 5pm, from Monday to Friday.
The returning 1,021 students from Peninsular Malaysia, Labuan and Sabah had undergone quarantine as well as testing and none were positive.
MDMC is seeking full cooperation from all students and parents in this exercise which is part of a prevention strategy against Covid-19.
