MIRI: The voluntary group #Sew4FrontLinerMiri began work yesterday on 5,800 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-liners here, in Lawas, and Kota Kinabalu.
Coordinator Nor Azlina Samin said 16,000 metres of non-woven material had been sent to the Community College in Permyjaya, where 15 volunteers began their work.
“Though some of us are still celebrating Hari Raya — today (yesterday) being the fourth day of the celebration — we pooled our resources and today alone since 9.30am we have already cut 480 sets of isolation gowns.
“We need to work very fast as this time, it is the biggest amount of materials so far donated and we target to convert them into 5,800 sets of PPE consisting of isolation gowns, hoods, and boot covers to be delivered mainly to Miri Hospital (3,000), Lawas Hospital (2,000), and hospitals in KK and surrounding areas (800),” she said when contacted yesterday.
She added the group needs more volunteers and donors for the project, where donors can contribute food for the volunteers, and volunteers can help with the cutting and sewing of the PPE.
“Currently we have some 100 volunteers comprising mostly housewives and seamstresses here.
“Men too are welcome to assist,” she said.
