KAPIT: Five barbers were compounded a total of RM5,000 by the police on routine checks in and around Kapit Town on Wed afternoon.

Each of them were compounded RM1,000 for breaking the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) that no barber shop is allowed to operate during this period.

Two of the barber shops found operating were along Jalan Teo Chew Beng and Jalan Tiong Ung Hong and three were at Mega Wisma along Jalan Yong Muk Chai.

When contacted, Kapit police chief DSP Freddy Bian said police discovered the barber shops were operating during their beat rounds.

“They opened the doors of the barber shops to take a peep and found there were customers inside,” he said.

He said the barbers were brought to the police station and issued with the compounds before they were released, which must be paid within 14 days and failure to do so would mean they would charged in court.

On an unrelated matter, Freddy advised those celebrating Gawai not to go house visiting (ngabang) and warned that just like the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri, those caught going house visiting would be compounded.
