Tables and chairs in the class are arranged according to social distancing rules so as not to have many students in a class.

MIRI: SMK Baru is ready to face the challenge of the new normal post-Movement Control Order (MCO) to ensure that every student returning to school will remain safe.

According to its statement yesterday, SMK Baru has set up a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection for students, teachers, staff and parents.

The school’s principal Jerrah Pandin said all sections of the school area including cafe, classrooms, laboratory, hall, restroom, meeting room and general office, have been labelled to ensure social distancing.

In addition, flexible schedules have also been planned for the students apart from separate recess times and going home time for Form 5 and 6 students.

Movement restrictions are installed at the PIBG and guard shed.

“We also provide info on Covid-19 and health alerts around the school and for the school cafeteria, all food are packed food only. We have set a lengthy SOP and everyone including parents must adhere to the SOP once the school reopens.

“Hand wash sinks with Dettol soap are provided at the school entrance and visitor registration counters and temperature screening will be held at the Parent and Teacher Association (PIBG) sheds. For students with symptoms, they will be asked to wait at the PIBG shed to be taken back by their parents.” she told The Borneo Post yesterday.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has decided that schools will only be open for students taking up public and international examinations.

Among them are Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM), Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM).

However, the minister, Senator Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, said the reopening date would only be announced at least two weeks before schools reopen.
