MIRI: A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation to locate a missing septuagenarian in Long Moh, Ulu Baram enters its sixth day today.

The SAR team intensified their efforts to locate 73-year-old Sigau Anyi yesterday, but had to call off the fifth day of searching after failing to locate him before it got dark.

In a statement yesterday, the Marudi Fire and Rescue Department said the SAR team comprised four firefighters, three policemen from Long Lama police station, five People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) personnel, and 35 villagers.

“We covered areas which include the jungle, the village, and also the rivers — Sungai Karing, Pulau Liok, Sungai Anau, Sungai Moh, and Sungai Baram from Sungai Moh up until Long Jeeh — with the search radius between 7km and 10km,” said the statement.

On Tuesday, the fourth-day of the operation, the search was called off at 4pm as it was getting dark.

The statement added that as there is no telephone line in the area, the SAR team had to use the internet connection at Long Moh Health Clinic to send their reports.

Sigau was reported missing by his son on May 29.

He left the house on May 27 without telling his wife or children.
