LIMBANG: Police manning roadblocks here during the Movement Control Order (MCO) encountered two life-threatening incidents, said district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad.

In recounting the near-misses, he said one involved a poisonous snake which slithered its way into a tent he and his men were in at a roadblock near SMK Limbang.

“I had the shock of my life seeing the snake under the chair I was about to sit on,” he told reporters yesterday. He said the second incident occurred when a severe thunderstorm destroyed their tent, forcing frontline personnel to seek shelter inside a police van for fear of being struck by lightning.

“Thankfully, all of us remained safe throughout the MCO and were able to continue carrying out our duties rain or shine,” he added.

Abang Zainal Abidin said apart from carrying out checks at the roadblock, police had also helped those in need such as by helping a motorist push his vehicle to safety after it encountered engine trouble. He also expressed gratitude to the many who had donated food and drinks to those serving on the frontline as a show of support in the fight against the pandemic.

“Thank you also to the divisional and district disaster management committees for their efforts in ensuring the smooth running of our operation,” he said.
