KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok has slammed the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak for their call to the federal government to extend the operation hours of urban transformation centres (UTC).

In a statement yesterday, he reminded that it was DAP secretary general and former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng who shortened the operation hours to save cost.

He said the DAP-dominated Pakatan Harapan (PH) government had also successfully sold the idea that Malaysia will go bankrupt and use this reasoning for their motion to shrink the civil service and even campaigned vigorously, saying such services were a waste of money.

“Recently, two DAP Sarawak senior members were up to their old tricks yet again when they made cheap publicity in calling for an increase in operational times at the UTC.

“SUPP Stakan branch is disgusted by the shameless and unscrupulous actions of DAP Sarawak for their never-ending con games in playing with the public’s minds especially in their cheap publicity stunts. The timing of the cheap publicity is also mind boggling.

“We call on the public to be mindful that DAP has over the years propagated many slanderous and deceitful statements designed for the sole purpose of building up public mistrust, anger and animosity towards the government of the day,” he said.

He then questioned why DAP Sarawak can now have the cheek to turn around and request for longer hours, adding that their call to extend UTC operation hours would mean that they had inadvertently agreed that Malaysia has good finances and that the country will not go bankrupt.

Such action, he added, proved that DAP lied about the wastage in setting up UTC in the first place.

“DAP knows well that after their great mentor Tun Mahathir resigned as the 7th prime minister with no reason and gave up the government, the country was hit with the Covid19 pandemic outbreak. They know well that we are all under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) and it will take time for the federal government to correct all the mess that had been created by PH.

“DAP Sarawak knows that the UTC will eventually be returned to its old glory and that services will be returned to the proper format in due course, but they just can’t stop their strategy of selling hate to the masses. Their calculated publicity stunt is designed to instil anger and hate, knowing that the federal government will eventually return the UTC to its original settings.

“DAP Sarawak is also trying to take credit for their so-called proactive actions which SUPP Stakan condemn this shameless and unscrupulous moves and once again we beg the public not to fall for this trickery again and again,” he said.
