Eight months jail for man who threatened mum with knife in Miri

MIRI: An unemployed man has been sentenced to eight months jail by the Magistrate’s Court here after he pleaded guilty to threatening his mother with a knife.

Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu meted out the sentence after examining various factors including the guilty plea, facts of the case, the seriousness of the offence and public interest.

Yek Teng Siong, 33, was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for a two-year jail term or a fine or both upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the accused had pointed a knife at his mother, Lu Su Ing, 74, in a fit of anger with the intention of intimidating her.

He committed the offence at their family’s home in Siang Siang Garden, Pujut 6, at 7.11pm on June 24.

Prosecuting was ASP Mary Ong while the accused was not represented.
