Dog owners patiently queue up with social distancing in place to have their dogs vaccinated.

SIBU: Dog owners here are thankful to the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak for providing free anti-rabies mass vaccination programme.

According to one of them, Gereman Ujan from Sentosa in Salim area, he has been looking forward to get the free anti-rabies vaccination for his dog for quite sometimes.

It was also the first time that his dog was vaccinated.

“If I have to pay for the vaccination, I might not be able to do so as it can be very costly.

“Thus, we must make full use of this opportunity provided by the authorities to bring our
dogs for the free vaccination,” he said.

Mariana Manan who also got the free vaccination for the first time for her dog yesterday, said she was also thankful to the authorities for giving the free anti-rabies vaccination for her dogs.

“The programme really helps otherwise I would have to pay dearly for the service.

“We should get our dogs vaccinated so that they are healthy and free from harmful diseases,” she added.

Kong Kah Siung said he brought his dog to the programme as a show of support towards the free anti-rabies vaccination programme.

“We should not let an opportunity like this just pass by.

“If we love our pets we must get them vaccinated,” he said.

Meanwhile, the department’s assistant officer here, Anthony Janggu, said they targetted about 100 dogs per day from Sentosa to be vaccinated.

“With a manpower of six people, we vaccinate dogs aged three months and above from 9.30am to 3pm on July 2 and 3 at Taman Bukit Lima Nature Reserve.

“Dog owners must, however, adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by wearing face masks, observe social distancing and have their body temperature checked before coming to the programme,” he added.
