KUCHING: A self-employed man was yesterday sentenced to eight years in jail for robbing a woman inside her home in Taman Sejoli in January last year.

Sessions Court judge Marutin Pagan passed the sentence after the accused Mohd Musthafa Abdullah, 55, changed his plea to guilty halfway through the trial.

The judge did not pass the whipping penalty because of the accused’s age and the jail term takes effect from May 25 last year, the date of his arrest.

Musthafa together with another person namely Zulfika, committed armed robbery around 9.30am on Jan 9, 2019.

They carted away two television sets, a wristwatch, a blender and a rice cooker among other things from the house.

They used a knife to threaten the woman to surrender the items.

Zulfika, however, pleaded guilty on Jan 21, 2019 to committing the offence, framed under Section 397 and read with Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Musthafa, from Kampung Sungai Duuh at Mile 17, Kuching-Serian road, was not represented by any lawyer while DPP Nadrtun Naim Mohd Saidi prosecuted in the case.
