BAU: The federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) will go to the ground to see what the local players in Sarawak already have in order to facilitate them in applying for financial assistance.

Its minister Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said several forms of assistance are available from Motac to help the local players develop or upgrade their tourism products.

She noted that these assistances depend on what the players are looking for.

“For example, there is a Tourism Fund (Tabung Pelancongan), that is used more to develop the site itself or for renovation, which one can get from RM10,000 to RM100 million.

“We also have Special Tourism Fund and Infra Fund, and now we are coming with the stimulus package,” she told a press conference during her visit to Libiki Bamboo Resort at Kampung Bijuray Mongag, Krokong, here yesterday

Nancy said one of the reasons why they made a visit to the resort and other tourism destinations was to see for themselves what are available.

She noted that this is a very good opportunity for them to have a look at what they already have and if they are interested in applying for Motac’s facilities it will be much easier because the ministry is able to evaluate.

State Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebatian Ting, who was also present, said the state will be working very closely with the federal ministry, with Sarawak Tourism Board at the forefront in terms of promotion.

“We at state level are very much in line with the federal. Today, our federal minister is going down on the ground and this is what our government at the moment wants to do. To promote the domestic tourism is the first thing that we should start with,” he said.

Ting congratulated the owner of Libiki Bamboo Resort, saying the very moment they arrived there, they were so impressed and so comfortable with the place.
