Sarawak set to have own film featuring local personalities

KUCHING: Sarawak may have its own documentary or film featuring well-known local personalities including local artistes, in the future, says National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) chief executive officer Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri.

According to him, the organisation is always encouraging local artistes or industry players to come up with suggestions for film, documentary or drama products.

“Additionally, Finas will publish books that highlight past and present personalities who have contributed greatly to the industry. To me, this is something that needs to be done,” he told reporters when met during a ‘Ziarah Kasih’ programme that took place at the residence of a local veteran artiste, Safar Ghaffar, in Taman Sukma here yesterday.

Adding on, Ahmad Idham admitted that many well-known personalities from Sabah and Sarawak had not been given the deserving due attention and in this respect, he was optimistic that more would be done in the future.

“Before this, we did not focus more on well-known personalities from Sabah and Sarawak.

“However, under the efforts of Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Seri  Saifuddin Abdullah and Finas chairman Zakaria Abdul Hamid, I believe that we are moving into the right direction in paying greater attention to Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Idham said the period for interested parties to submit suggestions to Finas with regard to producing documentaries and films had closed on June 1 this year.

“At the moment, we (Finas) are evaluating the suggestions (of documentaries and films) to be produced in Sarawak,” he added.
