LIMBANG: The Limbang Division Anti-Drug Action Council has identified three hotspots in the division that  have drug problems.

Deputy Limbang Resident Sebi Abang says these hotspots are Kampung Limpaku Pinang and Seberang Kedai in Limbang District, as well as Awat-Awat in Lawas District.

“With regard to the hotspots, the One Stop Community (OSC) awareness programme needs to be run in every village and longhouse,” he told reporters after chairing an action council meeting on Friday.

He said the division recorded a total of 336 drug busts during the first half of this year — 209 drug-related arrests were registered in Limbang District, and 127 in Lawas District.

“There has been an upward trend in the number of arrests for drug abuse, from January to June this year, versus those recorded in the same period last year.

“Almost every day there is an arrest made, and the drugs are said to have been supplied via river, road, courier service, and illegal border routes,” he said.

Sebi said last year, 588 drug arrests were made in the division involving those aged 17 to 50 – 367 cases in Limbang, and 221 in Lawas.

He called upon all agencies to work together with all parties, including the village security and development committees (JKKK), besides implementing the Voluntary Patrol Scheme.
