KUCHING: DAP Sri Aman branch is calling on the Sarawak government to upgrade the treated water supply system in Sri Aman Division.
Its chairman Leon Jimat Donald said consumers particularly those in Simanggang have raised their concern over the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s commitment on upgrading the water supply system.
He said their concern was due to the approaching drought which usually happens in August, causing many households particularly in the longhouses lacking clean water for domestic consumption.
“Although there is lot of rain lately but the people have been asking me on the absence of any development in the water supply to the longhouses in Batu Lintang, San and Selepong.
“They are worried that once the drought kicks in they will be suffering,’ said Leon.
He said there seemed to be no long-term planning in the development of clean water supply to the people in these areas, although the chief minister had announced billions of ringgit in projects for Sarawakians.
“The people wants action and not empty rhetoric from these GPS leaders. They will no longer accept excuses after all these years of empty promises.
“Clean water is an essential need and the people’s demand should not be ignored any longer,” said Leon.
Meanwhile, Leon recently met with members of Sri Aman Sino-Dayak community where he donated some money for the construction of a new temple named Qi Tian Miao Temple.
He handed the contributions to their chairman Tan Chet Young who came accompanied by secretary Phang Chee Po.
