MIRI: Sarawak will soon have its very own television station as part of its effort to generate the state’s economy through creative industry.

Chief Minister Abang Johari Tun Openg in his Sarawak Day speech in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebration here tonight revealed that TV Sarawak will start its technical trial by the end of the year.

“God willing, in the not too distant future, we will be able to provide a platform for our creative industry enthusiasts to showcase and monetise their work.

“The state has been granted a 10-year license by the Ministry of Multimedia and Communication to operate a TV station in Kuching,” he said.

He added that Sarawak Media Group (SMG), a Sarawak government-linked company (GLC) would manage and operate the television station that will provide broadcasting services as a free-to-air channel, online publishing and information provisioning services.

“I would like to call for all our local creative industry players to grab this golden opportunity once TV Sarawak is fully operational,” he said.
