Zone A fishermen to undergo whitening process

DUNGUN: The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (Mafi) will implement a nationwide whitening process on Zone A (coastal category) fishermen to ensure that they are registered and have a valid licence.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said the effort was to facilitate channeling of appropriate aid such as subsistence allowances and other government subsidies to the group.

“The process will be conducted soon… not only in Terengganu, because in other states too, most of the fishermen have not registered.

“Some of them do have a licence but they are no longer active, hence the need for the whitening process. Through this effort, we will be able to obtain a comprehensive database system, for Zone A fishermen nationwide,” he said after a visit to the Dungun Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) Complex here yesterday. — Bernama
