Customers at a shopping centre in Piasau comply with the SOP by wearing face masks.

MIRI: The level of compliance with the compulsory wearing of face masks here, which took effect yesterday, has been satisfactory, and no compound has been issued so far, says district police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.

When contacted, he said his men had been carrying out regular checks on premises throughout the city to ensure public compliance with the new Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

“My men, together with enforcement personnel from other agencies, are carrying out checks on various premises here and monitoring the situation on the ground closely to ensure that the public would comply with the latest SOP. So far, there is no compound issued,” he said.

A check on several shopping centres in Piasau, Permyjaya, Riam and the city centre yesterday found that the majority of the people here, including children, adhered to the SOP by wearing face masks at public places.

Those seen at the ‘tamu’ (farmers and jungle produce market) of the Krokop Market and also Tamu Muhibbah, also complied with the directive.

Health director-general Datuk Noor Hisham Abdullah had, on Wednesday, called for mandatory usage of face masks for those going to crowded places where social distancing could not be observed fully.
