Class 3 health clinic in Serian ready by June 2022

KUCHING: The construction of a Class 3 health clinic in Serian is expected to be fully completed by June 9, 2022.

Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said the construction work, which is being implemented in phases by Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, started on June 10. It is scheduled to take two years to complete.

“The project was approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) in the Prime Minister’s Department for implementation under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).

“Phase one which involved earthworks on Dec 1, 2016 and was completed on July 20, 2017.

“Phase two involved building structural works which were tendered out from Sept 14 to Oct 7, 2019. The Letter of Acceptance was issued on March 3, 2020,” he said in his reply to Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot’s question in parliament yesterday.

The Class 3 health clinic project has been long awaited by Serian folk to overcome overcrowding at Serian Hospital.

Dr Adham also gave his assurance that the Ministry of Health, JKR Sarawak and other government agencies would work closely together to ensure that the project is carried out smoothly in line with the ministry’s aspiration to have it completed according to timeline, cost and standards.

Regarding the request for two more similar clinics in Tebedu and Bunan Gega, Dr Adham said the ministry had discussed the construction of a replacement health clinic in Tebedu under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
