KUCHING: Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) yesterday announced the ‘Sia Sitok Sarawak’ intra-state tourism campaign to boost the state’s tourism efforts and activities.

STB in a press release said the campaign allows Sarawakians and non-Sarawakians living in Sarawak with work permits to experience and enjoy the beauty Sarawak has to offer at substantial discounts of up to 50 per cent.

“The Sia Sitok Sarawak Campaign offers over 30 exciting attractions, tours and activities in Kuching, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Mulu, which include daytrips and non-overnight tours as well as full board multiple day trips with accommodation and meals.

Sarawakians and non-Sarawakians with valid work permits can also enjoy various tour packages such as enjoying the beautiful scenery at Kampung Sting near Bengoh Dam in Padawan.

“Be it for single travellers, couples, families with children, those in need of a weekend getaway, for a round of golf, a fun dive or simply to be amidst nature, there certainly is something for everyone,” it added.

Among the unique and enticing packages and activities up for grabs are the Sarawak River Sunset Cruise, Irrawaddy Dolphin Cruise at Santubong, bird watching at Kubah National Park, Fun Dive day trip at Satang Island, Evening Kuching Wetland Tour, Bako National Park, full-board Tanjong Datu National Park Tour, and Miri Golfing at Eastwood Golf Club Miri to name a few.

STB chief executive officer Sharzede Salleh Askor said the campaign is a great opportunity for Sarawakians to visit places they have not been to before, and to also become future ambassadors for Sarawak tourism.

She also said the campaign was part of Sarawak Tourism’s stimulus measures to give a boost to the local tourism industry and a good way of sustaining and maintaining the tourism eco-system for the industry players – tour and park guides, drivers, operators and restaurants during these challenging times.

“In carrying out this campaign, we are continuously mindful of the Covid-19 situation. As such, we will first focus on destinations in cured areas and green zones, whilst ensuring stringent SOPs and regular enforcements are in place to ensure full compliance from tour operators and industry players,” she added.

The Sia Sitok Sarawak Campaign which is open for booking from now until October 15 is held in collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF). STF will be providing the booking platform and payment gateway for the campaign.

The campaign will give privilege to Covid-19 frontliners including hospital workers, foreign doctors and nurses, the Royal Malaysian Police, the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), the Army, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Fire and Rescue Department and staff members from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

“This is done as an appreciation for their hard work and dedication to help bring the number of cases down. It also aims to provide a much needed break for them to travel and discover the beauty of Sarawak,” STB said.
