MIRI: Offenders under four categories, namely senior citizens, B40 group, disabled group (OKU) and first-time offenders, who are compounded under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 can appeal for reduction of compound.

Minister in-charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee Datuk Lee Kim Shin said this in a press release yesterday.

“Since the beginning of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) on June 10, the divisional health office here has received 79 walk-in individuals and company representatives  who have been compounded.

“Of the number, 91 per cent or 72 individuals were given 50 per cent discounts under the first offenders category.

“The remainder have paid the compound without appealing. All appeal applicants were also given counselling,” said Lee.

Lee, also Minister of Transport, said the giving of compound was meant to ensure that everyone complied with the new norms and standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the authorities in the fight against Covid-19.

Yesterday, Lee chaired a meeting with Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Miri Dayak Chamber of Commerce, Dewan Usahawan Bumiputra (DUBS) and Miri Hawkers Association to discuss the feedback on the implementation of Covid-19 SOP during RMCO and enforcement measures.

He stressed the importance of SOP that emphasized safety for everyone.

“The implementation of various ‘check-in’ methods, either using handwritten manual book prepared by the respective premises, or scan Mysejahtera or CovidTrace QR code, is to keep  track of the movement records of people during RMCO, and for smooth tracking purpose in case there is a positive case.

“All premises are urged to register with Mysejahtera or CovidTrace by displaying QR code for their customers,” said Lee.
