KUCHING (Aug 8): A total of 15 vehicles were ordered to turn back at the Sri Aman and Simunjan roadblocks today for failing to produce permits for inter-zone travel, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat said today.

It also said that 979 other vehicles managed to produce the permit and were allowed to pass through the roadblocks in both locations.

“There were altogether 994 vehicles which were checked today at the two roadblocks,” it said in a statement.

The roadblocks have been mounted from Aug 1 to 14 to restrict inter-zone movement as part of the state’s initiative in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Zone 1 consists of Kuching, Serian and Samarahan divisions, which are classified as red and yellow zones, while Zone 2 consists of Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang divisions which are green zones.

Those who are travelling within the same zone do not require a police permit.

On another matter, SDMC Secretariat also reported the police have issued 62 compound notices today for those failing to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP).

The highest number of compounds issued were in Kuching involving 34 individuals, Bintulu (20), Padawan (3), Betong (2), Miri (1), Limbang (1) and Kota Samarahan (1).

It added total of 1,685 premises were checked today for compliance with the SOP under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO), by teams comprising 722 enforcement personnel from the police, armed forces, Rela, Civil Defence Force, local councils, Ministry of Health, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry and other agencies.

“The police will continue to carry out SOP compliance checks, especially on the mandatory use of face masks in public places,” it sais.

It added that 1,165 vehicles were also checked at six roadblocks under ‘Ops Benteng’ to detect foreigners who had illegally entered the country during the current pandemic.
