MELAKA: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) continues to screen individuals who want to serve in the force to ensure they have no history or have ever been involved in the drug business or unhealthy activities.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the move was to ensure that PDRM did not become an easy medium for the individuals to carry out the activities involved which could tarnish the image and integrity of PDRM.

“We do not know that they may have an unhealthy history and when they (join) the police, what is worrying is that they turn PDRM into a platform to carry out the activities involved.

“On average, we see that this does exist, we are doing internal control and we also do damage control from time to time so that they are no longer trapped in this unhealthy activity,” he told reporters after visiting the Melaka Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), here, yesterday.

Earlier, he delivered a message in a closed ceremony to members and officers of the Melaka IPK which was also attended by state police chief, Datuk Mat Kasim Karim.

Commenting further, Mazlan said apart from that, police officers and officers should adhere to the principle of integrity and stay away from corrupt practices as it is a disease and should be eliminated from among the team.

“As law enforcement officers we take action against those who break the law. If we ourselves are breaking the law, what will happen to our society,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said members and officers of PDRM should always ensure that police reports made by the public are not left dangling, instead they need to inform on the latest developments in the investigation of the case from time to time.

In another development, he urged the owners of business premises, especially food outlets in Melaka, to implement the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOP), especially customer tracking records placed at the entrance to prevent the occurrence of new clusters such as ‘Sivagangga’ in Kedah.

“This is because Melaka is one of the tourism states, and in this Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) season, many locals will definitely partake in leisure and travel to this state, especially during weekends or holidays,” he said.

He said the Melaka Police would also tighten control and enforcement, especially in terms of the SOP set so that there would be no violations that could cause the spread of Covid-19 in the state. — Bernama
