SERIAN: Sarawak Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (Salcra) has formed seven survey teams to expedite surveying operations meant to alienate land for the purpose of issuing titles in all Salcra areas.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Salcra chairman, the Land and Survey Department would help train the surveyors beginning October.

“Sarawak government has provided a sum of RM5 million for the operations under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP),” he said before the presentation of land titles to 506 landowners in Salcra’s Serian region development areas, which took place at Kedup multipurpose hall here yesterday.

Uggah, who is also Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, said Salcra would bid for more funds under the next plan for this purpose.

“Through this new approach, we’re confident that we can issue more land titles in the coming years. All this while, the Land and Survey Department has been carrying out this task,” he said.

It is stated that to date, the department has helped survey 20,059 out of 26,923 lots.

“We have a total of 47,958 hectares, of which 37,580 hectares have been surveyed for the issuance of land titles.

“We have so far issued titles to 12,988 landowners, involving an area of 31,495 hectares.

“Another 16,463 hectares have yet to be issued with the titles,” he said.

Uggah said Salcra had also been tasked with surveying all new development areas.

“It should issue the land titles within three years of their development.

“This will be the KPI (key performance indicator) for Salcra under its general manager, Joseph Blandoi,” he added.

Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin who is Tebedu assemblyman; and Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn were also present at the event.
