KUCHING: The race for the vaccine for Covid-19 is the most important endeavour of the world in our time for it holds the key to going back to normal life and even survival of all nations.

Social activist Datuk Seri Ang Lai Soon said in a recent statement no nation can afford to procrastinate in securing the vaccine once it is developed and tested to be safe for use.

He called on the Malaysian government to join the queue for the vaccine noting that many developed nations like Japan, China, USA, Britain and the European Union had made provisions  to secure the vaccine and lock up billions of its doses when it is ready for use.

“We cannot be at the end of the queue for the vaccine when it is proven to be safe and effective, delay would mean more misery especially for the economy and even death.

“Any decision to acquire the vaccine must not be hindered by politics as this is a non-political matter and lawmakers must rise above their differences as this is to save lives.”

Ang added the nation must find whatever means to acquire the vaccine once it is in the market and if need be even dig into the national reserves.

“The world will only be rid of the inconvenience of social distancing , wearing of masks and the economic devastation wreaked by Covid-19 when an effective and safe vaccine is finally developed and mass produced,” he said.
