MIRI: The government wants to see more Bumiputera entrepreneurs shine and succeed in their business.

Assistant Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus said they should not only shine but are able to compete with entrepreneurs from other communities.

“This course today is conducted by CIDB (Construction Industry Development Board) Miri in collaboration with DUBS (Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber) Miri for new and licensed entrepreneurs to give them guidance on how to conduct their business and the way to succeed,” Rosey said when officiating at the one-day ‘Pembangunan Usahawan Kontraktor’ seminar at DUBS Miri office yesterday.

Present were DUBS Miri chairman Abdul Samat Ali, CIDB Miri branch manager Che Ahmad Isyai Che Said, Pusat Khidmat Kontractor (PKK) director Rozila Rebi, Dewanita Miri chairlady Katijah Shiekh Kassim and DUBS Marudi chairlady Mujan Lah.

Rosey also said the seminar provided information on the basic requirements needed to be a contractor, and sharing of knowledge and experience to new contractors.

“As a new contractor we must do the right thing first and follow the requirement of the relevant agencies so that when awarded any project, you are ready to do the work according to the scope of work.

“What is important, new contractors must learn from the experience of senior contractors on the route to success and how to overcome problems and issues during the implementation of projects,” she reminded.

Rosey, who is also the assemblywoman for Bekenu, urged DUBS Miri to remain a viable platform for Bumiputera entrepreneurs to discuss and share business ideas, and to produce more Bumiputera contractors on par with entrepreneurs from other communities in the state and country.
