KUCHING: The Bidayuh community has been told to reciprocate the generous contribution of RM16 million from the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government for Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Community Hostel, come the next state election.

DBNA advisor Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong, who is Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research, said the community must deliver all the eight Bidayuh seats, from Opar to Bukit Semuja.

He named the seats as Opar, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup and Bukit Semuja.

“We will have our state election in a few months. We may have it in January next year, but not later than June. That’s the time for the Bidayuh to reciprocate and deliver the eight seats for GPS,” he said before Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg handed over RM6.75 million to him during a ceremony held at the DBNA Hall here yesterday. The rest of the amount will be handed over to DBNA in six months’ time.

Manyin, who is Tebedu assemblyman, recalled that during the Barisan Nasional (BN) era, voters were told not to look at the candidate but look at the BN symbol.

“Now, it should be – do not look at the candidate, but look at the symbol of GPS.”

He said the GPS state government had been going all-out to promote the state’s ruling coalition among Sarawakians across the state.

He added that the Bidayuh should stick together to have ‘One Heart, One Mind, One Bidayuh’ so as to see more development for the overall benefits of the community.
