KUCHING (Sept 11): Two men were arrested by the police when drugs believed to be ganja weighing 501 grammes and estimated to be worth RM7,000 were found in their possession yesterday.

Kuching acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa in a press statement said the suspects were arrested by the district’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department at a roadside in Jalan Matang Baru.

“The arrest of the suspects aged 22 years old and 28 years old was made based on police intelligence,” said Merbin.

During questioning, the ganja which was still in a ‘brick weed’ form (compressed) was said to have been bought from a drug dealer in Peninsular Malaysia.

“The suspects then flew back to Kuching via airline with intent to sell the drugs in Kuching,” said Merbin.

He added that police are also trying to identify the source of the drugs and the alleged drug dealer in Peninsular Malaysia.

Both suspects who also tested positive for ganja in an early drug test will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
