Police cut electricity supply to 203 premises statewide involved in illegal gambling activities

KUCHING (Sept 11): The Sarawak police conducted a statewide operation to disconnect the electricity supply to a total of 203 premises allegedly involved in illegal gambling activities yesterday.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Denis Leong in a statement today said the one day operation was carried out with assistance from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).

“These premises are believed to be involved in online gambling, illegal lottery and other gambling activities,” said Leong.

He also revealed that similar operations will be carried out in the upcoming days as part of the police’s effort to tackle illegal gambling activities in Sarawak.

The joint operation was conducted in Kuching, Padawan, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Samarahan, Serian, Bau, Lundu, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Lubuk Antu, Saratok, Julau, Kanowit, Dalat, Matu Daro, Tatau, Belaga, Limbang, Lawas, and, Mukah.

Meanwhile, Leong thanked the public who have been working with the police by providing them with information about illegal gambling activities.

He also urge the public to continue working with the police as the fight against illegal gambling activities and crime in general is everyone’s responsibility.
