No new Covid-19 cases for S’wak again

KUCHING: No new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Sarawak yesterday, keeping the cumulative number of positive cases at 700.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat said in a statement the Alam Cluster in Bintulu remained the sole active cluster in the state, with eight cases reported.

Out of the total number of cases from the cluster, seven had recovered from the virus and been discharged, while one case is still receiving treatment in Bintulu Hospital.

One patient had recovered and was discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) yesterday, bringing the total number of recoveries and discharged cases to 677.

“A total of four cases are still receiving treatment in hospital isolation wards. Two are being treated at Bintulu Hospital, one at Sibu Hospital, and one at Miri Hospital,” said SDMC.

The secretariat also said five new persons under investigation (PUI) cases were recorded yesterday, out of which two were still waiting for lab results.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Sarawak remains at 19 with no new deaths recorded.

SDMC said Kuching District remained a Covid-19 Yellow Zone due to an active case recorded in the last 14 days.

As for persons under surveillance (PUS) cases, 40 individuals checked into hotels for their compulsory quarantine yesterday, bringing the total number of current PUS cases to 659 individuals at 11 hotels statewide.

SDMC also mentioned that the police had issued 59 compound notices to individuals flouting standard operating procedures (SOP) during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period. They comprised 30 in Bintulu, 25 in Kuching, and one each in Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei, and Lawas.

“A total of five arrests were made involving an entertainment outlet owner and four workers in Bintulu for operating beyond permitted hours and not complying with SOPs for entertainment outlets,” SDMC said.
