SIBU: Sarawak State Library (SSL) Sibu branch is starting its operations from today (Sept 15).

SSL Board of Management chairman Tan Sri Hamid Bugo remarked that the people in Sibu have long waited for the facility here.

“I believe the library will be able to function as a digital information services portal for central region covering Sibu, Mukah, Kapit and Sarikei.

“As a portal to a treasure trove of universal knowledge and information, locals will have the opportunity to improve their abilities and find out the latest developments in their respective fields.

“We know our community will be left behind if we lacked knowlegde and creativity. The absent of knowledge and reading has its repercussion,” he said when he officiated at a ceremony to mark the commencement of services of the library located at Jalan Tuanku Bujang in Sungai Merah here yesterday.

Also present were SSL chief executive officer Dr Rashidah Bolhassan and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting.

Among the services available at the library were electronic journals, online information hub, e-newspaper, Sarawak state bibliography, e-Sarawak Gazette and U-Pustaka.

It also offered amenities such as bookshop cafe, Children Infotheque, Makerspace, ICT training room, conference room, reading section, books and magazines lending services and use of reference collection materials.

Meanwhile, many activities will be held in conjunction with the commencement of services today.

The activities include free membership registration and Customers Day.
