Company evacuates villagers, provides aid

SIBU: China Gezhouba Group Company Ltd. (CGGC) has reached out to about 100 villagers in Kampung Entawau affected by the worst flooding in decades with water level rising up to 10-metre high submerging their longhouses.

A seven member team from the company involved with the construction of Balleh Dam brought in threee speed boats to move villagers and their valuables to a longhouse on higher ground where the victims are putting up temporarily. Most of the villagers’ belongings were swept away by flood waters.

Incessant heavy rain since Thursday caused flood water to rise quickly on Saturday night inundating the village with four longhouses about 10km downstream of the the dam with only roofs visible.

After the evacuation, CGGC also donated food and other necessary items to the flood victims including rice, noodles, canned food, cooking oil and others.
