The operation was held to check on the people’s compliance with the ‘New Norm’ and crime prevention, and was participated by personnel from the army, Rela and the Civil Defence Force.

“All five suspects were tested positive for methamphetamine,” said Kuching District acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa in a statement yesterday.

Two of the suspects were arrested at the Tun Salahuddin Bridge, and one at Kampung Stampin. They will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Two other suspects will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after syabu weighing 0.35g was found on them during their arrest at Taman Stampin Baru.

During the three-hour operation, police also issued 35 compounds to 25 male and 10 female offenders for violating the standard operating procedures of Recovery Movement Control Order.

“Checks were carried out at Kuching Waterfront, Premier 101, Gala City, Meto City Gita and Saradise Commercial Centre,” he added.

The compounds were issued to offenders who failed to comply with the SOPs at two entertainment outlets and two eateries.

A total of 32 premises and 218 individuals (138 male and 10 female) were checked.
