KUCHING (Sept 28): The Yang di-Pertuan Agong was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) last week due to food poisoning and also to treat sport injuries, said the Istana Negara in a statement Monday.

In the statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin informed that Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is recovering but was advised to stay in IJN for further monitoring and treatment of his condition.

“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has undergone food poisoning and intervention treatment as well as advised to undergo follow-up treatment at the IJN,” he said.

Ahmad Fadil explained that food poisoning treatment began when the Agong was admitted to IJN on the night of September 21, while the intervention treatment was followed by magnetic resonance imaging on September 22, which has shown the injuries caused by sporting activities.

He said the Agong will return to the Istana Negara after his follow-up treatment is completed.

On a separate note, Ahmad Fadil said the Agong has expressed concerns on the recent spike in Covid-19 cases.

“The Agong is worried over the increase of Covid-19 positive cases in the Peninsula due to those who returned from Sabah from September 20 to 27 with 36 new cases detected,” he said
