Male driver killed in single-vehicle accident

KUCHING: A 30-year-old male driver died in a single- vehicle accident at Jalan Kota Samarahan-Mambong around 10am yesterday.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim lost control of his vehicle which skidded to the left of the road, collided with a water pipe before flipping and landing on its roof inside a drain.

“The deceased, identified as Desmond Romario Steven Tangkun, was trapped inside the upside down car when rescuers arrived at the scene,” said Alexson in a statement yesterday.

The victim from Taman Sasa, Jalan Kong Phin is believed to be heading towards Serian from Kuching when he met with the accident.

Alexson added that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical personnel. His body was transferred to the Sarawak General Hospital morgue for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
