KOTA KINABALU (Oct 9): Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Mohd Noor has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now undergoing treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said his public relations secretary Effendi Mohamed Sunoh.

“The condition of the chief minister’s health is good and stable,” Effendi said in a statement tonight.

He said Hajiji had decided to undergo self-quarantine after he was exposed to a Covid-19 positive staff and while under quarantine, he had taken a test for the virus when he was found to have been infected.

“Although he is now undergoing treatment, the chief minister is still carrying out his duties and responsibilities from where he is being treated, via the phone and video conferencing. The state government is functioning as normal,” said Effendi.

“The chief minister calls on the people of Sabah to be calm and together pray to Allah SWT for his recovery and to save Sabah and Malaysia from Covid-19. Insya-Allah.”

Sabah has seen a huge surge in Covid-19 cases since the snap polls about two weeks ago.

Today, the state recorded 274 new cases bringing its total cases since the outbreak to 3,565. There have been 22 deaths from the virus in Sabah.
