KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) stands ready to collaborate with Kelab Futsal Kenyalang Bintulu (KFKB) to set up the first official futsal development programme in the state.

SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee, who visited the Kenyalang Futsal Excellence Centre (KFEC) for an evaluation on Thursday, was impressed with the excellent facilities there.

Ong was briefed by KFKB on their vision, future plans as well as short-term and long-term goals.

“With the rising potential of futsal in the sports industry, I am in full support and have high hopes on the futsal centres in Sarawak in advancing our local players to the next level of futsal success, and progressively compete at the local, regional and national championship,” he said.

“This will be the first futsal centre and we are planning to have more centres in other parts of the state with the hope of producing more players of high calibre who will not only represent the state and country,” added Ong.

With the first FIFA standard futsal facilities ever provided in Bintulu, KFEC will be the official venue to kick-off the futsal development programme.

“KFKB aims to cultivate youngsters at grass-roots level to develop extensive futsal skills and sports confidence to become professional futsal players in the future.

“This development programme will be focusing on four categories which are U12, U15, U17 and Senior.

“Each of these categories will be trained by certified coaches in this industry appointed by KFKB and SSC,” said KFKB representative Jacky Yong Ka Yein.

He said the grand launching of the event will take place on the Oct 24 and 25 at KFEC where the Kenyalang Futsal Championship Q4 is held.

The competition is organised by KFKB in collaboration with SSC and KFEC.
