KUALA LUMPUR: The country continued to record new Covid-19 infections numbering in three digits after 660 cases were reported overnight, along with four fatalities.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah remains the state with the highest number of new cases at 429, or 65 per cent of the total number of new infections, while Kedah recorded 113 cases (17.1 per cent) with 109 of them from the Tembok cluster.
“This brings the Covid-19 case tally in Malaysia to 17,540 cases with active cases currently at 5,768,” he said in an online press conference on Covid-19 developments yesterday.
Dr Noor Hisham said of the 660 new infections, six were import cases who got infected abroad, involving two Malaysians and four foreigners.
“Of the 654 local transmissions, 608 cases involved Malaysians while the rest were foreigners,” he said.
To date, Dr Noor Hisham said there were 108 cases being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of which 35 require respiratory aid.
He said 233 recoveries were recorded yesterday, bringing cumulative recoveries to 11,605 cases, or 66.2 per cent of the case tally.
Dr Noor Hisham said all of the four deaths were reported in Sabah, involving three female patients and a man, aged between 47 and 80.
The death toll now stands at 167, or one per cent of the total number of cases, he said. —Bernama
