Man arrested for violating home quarantine

SIBU: A man, 39, was arrested at Kuala Matu on Friday for violating home quarantine to go to work.

Dalat police chief DSP Saga Chunggat said the man who came back from Kuala Lumpur was ordered to undergo quarantine at his home in Rantau Ensurai, Batang Oya, from Oct 4 to 17.

“The first swab turned out negative. The second one has been taken, but before he received the result he already left his house to go to work at Kuala Matu. He has not completed the quarantine period,” Saga said in a statement yesterday.

He added the subject was found not in the house during a routine check by the inspecting team from Stapang Police Station on Thursday.

“According to his mother, the subject left the house with his employer on Wednesday afternoon to work at Kuala Matu despite her attempt to stop the subject from leaving the house,” he said.

Saga said the police in Dalat immediately took action to trace the subject with help from the police in Daro.

“A police team from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Dalat headed by Inspector See Chie Chien arrested the subject at Kuala Matu on Friday morning.

“After all the documentation was done, the subject was released on bail and was ordered to complete his quarantine until Oct 17.”

The case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22(b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Saga urged the state government and the police to look seriously on the compliance of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) during this Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in the state.

“The police, Rela and Civil Defence personnel will conduct check every day on every individual who is ordered to undergo quarantine.

“We will not compromise on any violation of SOP for the safety of the people in Dalat,” he said.

He said although the compliance of SOP in Dalat has been satisfactory, he urged the people to continue to cooperate, comply and practice social distancing, use face mask in public places and practise personal hygiene.
