Fatimah (centre) checks out the proposed place for the BBSC.

KUCHING: The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry will establish a Borneo Best Support Centre (BBSC) instead of a Temporary Transit Centre for the Homeless (TTG) in Kuching, said its minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

“The Borneo Best Support (Centre) services will combine best practices that we have seen inside and outside the country, and our own Sarawak way,” she told reporters via WhatsApp yesterday.

She pointed out that even though the issue of homelessness is not as serious in Sarawak as in some other states, her ministry is putting serious attention on the matter.

“Just when I thought we would never find a strategic place for Kuching’s TTG, we finally came across one.

“After looking at the (proposed) place and a brief discussion, we decided that in Kuching, instead of TTG, we will establish Borneo Best Support Centre,” she said, adding that the social support services will cater for various target groups.

Fatimah also explained that her ministry is planning several TTGs to be set up in Kuching, Sibu, Miri and Bintulu.

“Sibu TTG will be using the former Maksak building and it will be renovated and upgraded. It is ready for tender, followed by work commencement,” she said.
