MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Federation of Orang Ulu Association Sarawak Malaysia (Forum) cultural centre next month, said Forum deputy president Dennis Ngau.

“Our prayers are answered that after all the preparatory works and settling amicably with some locals who worked on the land earmarked for the centre here, the successful contractor can now move in to start work,” said Dennis who is TelangUsan assemblyman Dennis when met after a meeting with committee members here recently.

“With its central location, the cultural centre will provide another interesting tourism feature for the city,” he said.

Forum comprises nine Orang Ulu associations, namely, Persatuan Kayan Sarawak, Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak, Persatuan Lun Bawang Sarawak, Rurum Kelabit Sarawak, Persatuan Pembangunan Tipun Penan Sarawak, Persatuan Berawan Sarawak, Persatuan Saban Sarawak, Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak and Persatuan Lakiput Sarawak.

“The centre is designed by a young Orang Ulu architect from Sg Asap, featuring prominently Orang Ulu cultural heritage.

“Though relatively small in number, the Orang Ulus have always been closed to the hearts of the state leaders,” said Dennis.
